Bringing Philanthropy to Food Systems

Building Resilient Communities.

The Food System is More Than a Market.

It’s an Ecosystem.

The Local Food Trust is a philanthropic bridge connecting investors to frontline growers, producers, fishers, and distributors in our local and regional economies. We see food as a public good. We serve as a strategic intermediary, channeling catalytic capital into our food system. By investing in those rooted in community, we can build a food system that works for everyone.

Beyond a mere financial pass-through, we are an active strategic partner, providing the specialized consulting and non-extractive capital that food producers need to thrive.

The Problem

The current U.S. food system is a $9.5 trillion linear sector built on a “take-make-dispose” model. It relies on extractive capitalism that prioritizes supply-and-demand pricing over community resilience. This often leaves small and mid-scale producers vulnerable and underfunded, lacking the infrastructure to compete in larger markets and with volatile supply chains.

The Solution

We provide a new model for food system investment. We bridge the gap between investors seeking catalytic capital opportunities and those who may not be able to afford traditional debt or equity. Philanthropy plays a vital role in society by funding innovation and providing resources to sectors such as local and regional food actors that government or the private sector may not reach. Anyone can be a philanthropist by supporting social, environmental, or community causes.

We bring philanthropy to food to build local and regional equity and capacity through consulting services and regenerative, catalytic capital investments.

We are currently working on our 2026 relaunch and are seeking lead investors and innovative food partners to join our mission. Whether you are a donor looking to create a legacy or a producer ready to scale, let’s build a resilient food ecosystem together.
